Chilchinbeto Honor Private 1st Class, Peter Yazzie Claw, PFC

Peter Yazzie Claw was born and raised in Chilchinbeto, Arizona to Elsie and John Billy. He served with honor in the United States Army. He was killed in Action on April 5th, 1968 in Kontum, South Vietnam. The community of Chilchinbeto Chapter honor his sacrifice for the freedom we enjoy.

The decorations earned by PFC Peter Yazzie Claw include: The Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

Private Yazzie grew up herding sheep in the White Mesa area. Following graduation from Intermountain High School, he enlisted for the military. He began his tour on March 13th, 1968 with 4th Infantry Division, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry, A Company. During his service in the Vietnam War, Army PFC Claw experienced a traumatic event which ultimately resulted in loss of life on April 5, 1968.
